What is Moissanite?

Moissanite is the BEST alternative to a diamond!

Let me tell you why…

I’ve been in the fine jewelry industry for over a decade. As a newbie in the industry, I thought that I all I wanted was to be dripping in diamonds… They epitomize luxury, so beautiful, sparkly and brilliant. They’re also quite expensive, and out of budget for a lot of folks.

All of that thinking really had me believing my dreams were just that…

Dreams…

Was my entire life going to working towards saving for this (very expensive) dream of being bejeweled?

The answer in short, is no.

Moissanite provides more brilliance than a diamond (science, guys) and does it at a fraction of the cost!

But, is Moissanite even a real gemstone?

Yes!!! The coolest thing about moissanite is that it IS a gemstone. It’s not a fake diamond, or a synthetic diamond… it’s a carbon silicate mineral, with more brilliance and sparkle than even the rarest diamond. Best of all, it’s ridiculously affordable, and it’s pretty neat that’s its made up of the same materials as SPACE DUST!

A little history lesson for you…

Moissanite was discovered by French Chemist & Nobel Prize Winner Henri Moissan. In 1893 Moissan found the first deposit of Moissanite in a crater made by impact from a meteor that hit the Earth some 50,000 years ago. At first, he mistakenly identified what he had found as diamonds. Later, in 1904, he correctly identified the crystals as silicon carbide. The gem was later named in his honor by a Tiffany & Co. gemologist.

What’s so great about it?

Well, a lot of things!

For daily wear, we want something that is hard, and Moissanite is hard.

It’s really hard… Harder than a sapphire or a ruby and second only to diamond.

Hardness in jewelry matters because it determines what kind of a beating the stones can take before being damaged.

Moissanite also sparkles, and it sparkles a lot.

It’s sparkle is one of the sexiest things about it, and it is all thanks to science!

Moissanite sparkles more than a diamond because it has a higher refractive index, but all we really need to focus on is how much it sparkles at the end of the day!

Another reason it’s so great?

(This is the one I’ve seen that matters the to the average person)

Moissanite is only 1/10 the cost of a diamond!!!

Nearly as hard, and more brilliant…

Why not save that money and put it towards your honeymoon, college loans, or retirement account and buy a Moissanite instead of a diamond?

It’s a no-brainer to me..
