Ammolite

Ammolite is a rare organic gemstone formed from the fossilized shells of ancient ammonites. Gem-quality material is primarily associated with the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada.

Its brilliant flashes of red, orange, gold, green, blue, and violet come from the layered structure of the fossilized shell rather than from pigments. Because the iridescent layer is naturally thin and delicate, ammolite used in jewelry is often stabilized or assembled as a doublet or triplet for added protection.

Ammolite is traditionally associated with transformation, evolution, vitality, and abundance.

Ammolite is delicate and requires careful handling. The natural gemstone layer has a Mohs hardness of approximately 3.5 to 4.5, although protective caps used in doublets and triplets may improve its durability.

Avoid impacts, scratching, prolonged moisture, harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaning, steam cleaning, and sudden temperature changes. Clean gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Store separately from other jewelry.
